Political differences hamper amendments files – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A member of the constitutional amendments committee on Friday ruled out any agreement among political blocs regarding the constitutional amendments files because of the political differences. “The committee completed all amendments required by the political blocs but the political differences on some controversial points still represent an obstacle of the parliamentary committee’s work and negatively affect the constitutional amendments file,” Sami al-Atroushi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “We in the constitutional amendments committee raised the controversial issues which need a political agreement to political leaders and we still wait their agreement to send them back to us,” he explained. “The five controversial issues are; the article 149 of the constitution regarding the normalization of the situation in Kirkuk, and the constitutional article on the personal law and the president as well as the authorities given to the provinces which will merge within region,” he noted, adding that he oil law and the mechanism to distribute oil revenues still represents a controversial point among political blocs.
