Kurdistan parliament Green Bloc head resigns
SULAIMANIYA / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Green Bloc in Iraq’s Kurdistan Parliament on Monday announced her defection to the Change Bloc as parliamentary polls are approaching. “I submitted my resignation from my post as the head of the Green Bloc chairman because I will run for the next elections with the Change Bloc, headed by former deputy of Talabani, Noshirwan Mostafa,” Kowistan Abdullah told IraqiNews.com news agency. “According to the law, a bloc head cannot keep his post while joining another bloc in elections…,” Abdullah explained. Abdullah was the first woman to head a parliamentary bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament since it was established in 1992. The Green Bloc holds 40 seats in the 111-member Kurdistan Parliament. Forty-two political blocs will participate in the forthcoming parliamentary polls in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, scheduled to take place on July 25. SS (P) 1
