Foreign Ministry authorized to enter negotiations with UNAMI

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Iraqi cabinet has authorized the Foreign Ministry to enter new negotiations with the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) over the 1946 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations. “The cabinet has also decided to pull a draft law on approving a previous agreement between the Republic of Iraq and the United Nations concerning UNAMI’s activities, concluded on June 3, 2005, from the Parliament,” an Iraqi government spokesperson, Ali al-Dabbagh, told IraqiNews.com news agency. The Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United Nations, passed by the United Nations General Assembly on 13 February 1946 and to which Iraq acceded in 1949, defines and specifies numerous issues relating to the status of the United Nations, its assets, and officials, in terms of the privileges and immunities that must be granted to them by its Member States.
