VP, congressmen discuss SOFA

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdulmahdi on Sunday discussed with a U.S. congressional delegation the implementation of the Status-of-Forces Agreement (SOFA) signed between the two countries. “The delegation included Sen. Patrick J. Leahy, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and Sen. Mark Warner,” according to a statement released by Abdulmahdi’s office and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. On November 27, 2008, the Iraqi Parliament passed a security agreement with the United States, just 10 days after the Iraqi cabinet approved it with an overwhelming majority. The meeting, attended by the U.S. ambassador to Iraq, Christopher Hill, tackled the general situation in Iraq, particularly the political, security and economic arenas, the statement added. SS (P) 1
