Iran, Iraq should develop without oil reliance, says Jahangiri

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Iran’s First Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri said Iran and Iraq should progress without relying on their oil income.

He made the remarks here on Tuesday addressing the gathering of Iranian businessmen and tradesmen.

Pointing to regional developments, he said heavy reliance on oil is the biggest challenge the two countries face, so both have to make progress in their economy and industry without relying on oil.

He said Iran believed dropping oil prices was a plot against independent countries.

He also hoped Iran and Iraq will manage to restore their due place in oil market.

He believed Tehran and Baghdad should grow the number of appropriate partners.

The Iranian senior official stressed the political will on the part of officials of both countries to grow mutual relations and the volume of bilateral trade.

Jahangiri arrived in Baghdad on Monday at the top of a high-ranking delegation to participate in the Joint Iran-Iraq Commission and conferred with heads of the Iraqi Parliament’s various fractions. /End/
