Parliamentary system best for Iraq – VP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq ‘s Vice President Adel Abdulmahdi on Thursday said he does not support the opinion of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki which supports the presidential system, asserting that the parliamentary system is the best for Iraq . In an interview with al-Mada newspaper, Abdulmahdi said “our choice of the parliamentary system was based on the multiplicity of the Iraqi people and its population’s nature as well as Iraq’s long experience with tyranny and centrality.” On May 13, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had said he supports the democracy principle which gives the bloc which wins the majority of votes in the elections the right to form the government, considering the presidential system as better than the parliamentary one.
