VP condemns attacks on journalists

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi Vice President Adel Abdulmahdi on Monday condemned the attacks on media personnel, calling on official bodies to provide more protection for them. “We strongly condemn the criminal acts that target the men of the free word and urge official bodies to provide further protection for journalists and correspondents so they can freely and safely fulfill their duty…,” according to a statement released by Abdulmahdi’s office and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. On Sunday (May 31), a correspondent for al-Baghdadiya TV channel, Alaa Abdulwahab, died from wounds he sustained in an explosive charge attack in Mosul city. A sticky improvised explosive device (IED) targeted the vehicle of al-Baghdadiya channel correspondent in Mosul, Abdulwahab, and a sports journalist, Sultan Girgis, who was in his company, in al-Majmoua al-Thaqafiya area, northern Mosul. Girgis was wounded in the incident. SS (P) 1
