ISIS blows up Markourkas Church in Mosul
(IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, local sources in Nineveh revealed that the ISIS group has detonated the Markourkas Church, located northeastern of Mosul.
The sources stated, “The ISIS group elements blew up the Markourkas Church, which is located in the northeastern side of Mosul, using improvised explosive devices that were placed in different points around the church in the late hours of last night.”
The sources added, “The bombing led to the destruction of the entire church without causing any human casualties.”
The Markourkas Church is one of the largest churches in the city, and includes a residential complex and a Christian cemetery.
The bombing of the church comes in the context of a campaign to destroy the religious and cultural heritage monuments in the areas controlled by ISIS.
