Talabani congratulates Iran’s Ahmadinejad over re-election

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi President Jalal Talabani sent a congratulatory cable to Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad over his re-elections for a second term in office, urging him to strengthen ties between the two neighboring countries. “I am confident that friendly and neighborly ties binding our two countries will grow stronger during the years to come to the interest of the people of both sides and peace, security and stability in the region,” Talabani said in his cable received by IraqiNews.com news agency. Iranian Minister of Interior Sadeq Mahsuli had announced after vote counting that Ahmadinejad won the Iranian presidential elections with 62.2% of the total votes while his moderate contender Mir-Hossein Mousavi garnered 33.75% in polls that witnessed a turnout of 85% of eligible voters.
