Demonstration in Kut against prisoner abuse

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: A number of women staged a demonstration on Friday in front of the Wassit local council to protest abuse of Iraqi detainees in the province’s jails, demanding the release of jailed relatives. The angry women raised banners saying “We demand the release of our sons who are being tortured in jails.” On Thursday (June 18), Sadrist Lawmaker, Ahmad al-Massoudi, called on international organizations to visit Iraqi jails to unveil sexual torture against prisoners. “A parliamentary committee is gathering the evidences and the parliament will follow up the case through this committee,” he added. A number of lawmakers had demanded to form an investigation committee to unveil the human rights violations in the Iraqi and U.S. jails in Iraq.
