Romanian forces end mission in Iraq

THI-QAR / IraqiNews.com: The Romanian forces ended their mission in Iraq and will start withdrawing from Thi-Qar on Thursday, the spokesperson for the Multinational forces said. “The Romanian forces will start withdrawing Thursday (June 4) after ending their mission in Iraq during an official ceremony to be held in the Taliel base in southern Nassiriya,” Major Chad Carlo told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Iraqi commanders from Muthanna, Missan and Thi-Qar will attend the withdrawal ceremony,” he added. In August 2003, Romania sent over 5,200 servicemen to Iraq, of which only 600 soldiers remain in the country to provide intelligence support. Nassiriya, the capital city of Thi-Qar province, lies 380 km south of Baghdad. SH (P) 1
