500 media workers killed in Iraq since 2003, says UN
(IraqiNews.com) Deputy Representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jim Boston announced on Sunday, that 500 media workers have been killed in Iraq since 2003, while called everyone for cooperation for the development of the media sector.
Posten said in a speech at the celebration of World Press Freedom Day, which was held today in Baghdad and attended by IraqiNews.com, “There are a lot of journalists who have died in Iraq since 2003,” adding that, “The number reached 500, according to the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate.”
Boston called on everyone to “cooperation for the development of the media sector and strengthen the capacities of journalists,” pointing out that, “Freedom of expression transforms societies to the better.”
