U.S. forces to shut down Camp Bucca soon

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A media advisor working with the U.S. forces on Sunday said they would close Basra’s Camp Bucca soon. “The number of detainees at Basra’s Camp Bucca and Baghdad’s Cropper and al-Taji prisons has dropped to 8,950 since the implementation of the security agreement between the Iraqi and U.S. governments,” Kareem al-Sayyab told Iraqi News. “The U.S. army in Iraq will shut down Basra’s Camp Bucca within the next few days and move all detainees to al-Taji and Cropper in Baghdad,” the advisor noted, providing no further details. Sayyab denied the presence of female detainees in U.S.-run detention centers and prisons. Every month, U.S. forces hand over 750 detainees to the Iraqi authorities in accordance with the security pact signed between the two governments. SS (P) 1
