(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The United Nations Office in Iraq announced on Monday the death of 1031 people and the injury of 1648 others as a result of the violence and “armed conflicts” during the month of May in Iraq.

The United Nations Office said in a statement posted on its website and followed by IraqiNews.com, “1031 Iraqis were killed, while 1648 others were injured in the outcome of violence and armed conflicts during the month of May in Iraq,” noting that “Baghdad is the most affected city, where 343 people were killed and 701 others injured”.

The statement added, “655 civilians had been killed in Anbar, including 59 policemen, and 313 civilians had been injured, including 86 police,” noting that, “the recent developments in Anbar led to the displacement of 237 786 people, while ISIS terrorist organization killed many civilians.”

Iraq has been in an extraordinary security situation. Military operations continue to expel ISIS, while the international coalition carries out air strikes targeting ISIS sites and inflect casualties upon its ranks.
