Ansar al-Sunna cleric detained in Diala

DIALA / IraqiNews.com: Iraqi police forces on Wednesday arrested the cleric of the Ansar al-Sunna group in Diala province, according to a local media source. “A joint army and police force conducted a military operation in al-Abbara area, Bahraz district (5 km south of Baaquba),” the source told Iraqi News. “Muhsin Abd Thiyab, the cleric of the Ansar al-Sunna group, who is wanted by the judicial authorities in accordance with Article IV of the Terrorism Law, was arrested during the operation,” the source indicated. Al-Abbara is one of the hot spots in Diala province. It is home to several armed groups, most prominently al-Qaeda-in Iraq (AQI), Ansar al-Sunna and the self-styled ‘Islamic State of Iraq’. Jaish Ansar al-Sunna, or Army of the Followers of the Sunna is a militant group based in northern and central Iraq, and includes both Kurdish and Sunni Arab as well as foreign fighters. Baaquba, the capital city of Diala province, lies 57 km northeast of Baghdad. SS (P)/SR 4
