Ninewa police tighten measures for Eid

NINEWA / IraqiNews.com: Security measures in Mosul city were tightened on tourist sites, crowded places and children’s entertainment spots during the period of Eidul-Fitr, the three-day festivity that caps the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, a security source said on Sunday. “Security measures by the Ninewa police department were tightened during the Eid period as security forces were deployed in crowded areas like gardens, tourist sites and amusement parks,” the source told Iraqi News. A series of attacks with truck bombs had targeted areas where minorities inhabit in Ninewa province during the past couple of months, leaving more than 176 people killed and hundreds others wounded. The recent of these attacks was the one with a truck bomb in the village of Wardak, east of Mosul, which killed 20 persons, wounded 30 others and severely damaged dozens of houses. Mosul, the capital city of the restive province of Ninewa, lies 405 km north of Baghdad. AmR (P) 1
