(IraqiNews.com) According to two US officials, Russia started flying drone aircraft on surveillance missions, in what appeared to be its first mission against militant groups in Syria.

The two officials said in a statement quoted by Reuters, “Russia began reconnaissance tasks by drone aircraft in Syria,” without specifying the number of participating aircraft in these missions.

Russia recently deployed about a half dozen tanks at an airbase south of Latakia in Syria.
