UN condemns acts of violence in Kurdistan, calls for accountability of perpetrators

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – On Thursday the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Jan Kubis, denounced the violence that accompanied the demonstrations in the Kurdistan region, and called for bringing the perpetrators of such acts to justice, demanding the political forces to ensure the proper functioning of the political system and its institutions.

Kubis said in a statement received by IraqiNews.com, “I would like to express my appreciation for the efforts made to restore order and calm and maintain them,” stressing the need for “political dialogue and discussions on the goodwill instead of confrontation.”
