50 MPs call to hold urgent meeting

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: A total of 50 lawmakers presented a request to the parliament’s chairmanship to hold an urgent meeting by the end of the week to be attended by prime minister and security commanders, a member of the security and defense committee said Friday. “During today’s meeting ministers said that Iraq has no strategic policy to fight terrorism,” Abdulkarim al-Samarraie said at a press conference in Baghdad attended by Iraqi News. “This requires forming a specialized committee under the parliament’s supervision to define a security strategy for the country and to investigate the recent bombing attacks,” the lawmaker said. He unveiled a request signed by 50 lawmakers to hold an urgent session by the end of the week and to be attended by security ministers and the general commander of the armed forces. The final toll from the synchronized explosions that occurred Wednesday (August 19) in Baghdad is 82 dead and 1,203 wounded. A series of bombings struck different parts of Babel province on Thursday (Aug. 20), leaving four civilians dead and 65 others wounded. The Baghdad Operations Command arrested 11 police and army officers after the Baghdad bombings that occurred on Wednesday. SH (S) 1
