Sadrist MP wants ad hoc committee to survey damage from Wed. blasts

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Sadrist legislator Zaynab al-Kenani on Sunday called for forming an ad hoc committee to visit the areas damaged from Wednesday’s blasts and survey the magnitude of losses. “I call on the government to compensate the victims of these blasts,” Kenani told Iraqi News, criticizing a speech by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki in which he wished the wounded speedy recovery but spoke of no compensations for the harmed families. On Wednesday (Aug. 19), the Iraqi capital Baghdad was rocked by six blasts with improvised explosive devices and car bombs. On Thursday (Aug. 20), the recent tally of casualties of the bombings were announced by Maj. General Qassem Atta, the official spokesman for the Fardh al-Qanoon (law imposing) security plan, to be 82 deaths and 1203 others wounded. Kenani also demanded to have Iraqis with critical wounds to receive treatment outside the country now that “the Turkish prime minister volunteered to provide treatment for the seriously wounded civilians”.
