Syrian army foils terrorist plot to attack military posts in Hama

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Syrian army foiled on Sunday an attempt by terrorist groups to infiltrate and attack military posts in Hama northern countryside.

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), Syrian army units last night conducted concentrated strikes against positions of terrorist groups affiliated to the so-called “Turkistan Party” in the villages of al-Mashik, Tal Waset and al-Ziyara in the northern countryside of Hama in retaliation to their repeated attacks.

An untold number of terrorists were killed in the strikes and others were injured, SANA said, adding that the troops also destroyed dens and fortified positions and a number of launchers which the terrorists had been using in their attacks.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced last week that American forces would leave Syria after defeating the Islamic State group, giving other countries such as Turkey the chance to deal with the remnants of the terrorist group.

Chief of Staff of the Iraqi army Othman al-Ghanmi on Saturday received a phone call from Commander of the U.S. Central Command General Joseph Votel, in which they discussed the security situation on the Iraqi-Syrian border and consequences of the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria.

“The decision to withdraw from Syria comes within a timetable prepared by the U.S. leadership,” the U.S. commander said.
