15,000 supervisors for Wassit elections

WASSIT / IraqiNews.com: The number of political blocs and civil society organizations registered at the Wassit elections commission to supervise the electoral process in the province reached 15,000, a source from the commission said on Thursday. “The elections commission received until Wednesday (Jan. 14) 15,000 supervisors representing civil society and political blocs in the province,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency, noting that the commission will receive supervisors’ requests until January 20. “Every political bloc, which is participating in the provincial councils elections, has the right to nominate 520 supervisors; 2 for each poll station,” he explained. A Shiite province, Wassit, 180 km south of Baghdad, is in the east of the country. Its name comes from the Arabic word meaning “middle,” as it lies along the Tigris about midway between Baghdad and Basra. Its major cities include the capital, al-Kut, and al-Hayy. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. SH (S) 2
