Abdul Mahdi, Kobler discuss political updates in Iraq
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The former Vice-President and the leader within the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, Adel Abdul Mahdi, discussed with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq, Martin Kobler, the political updates in Iraq and the region in addition to the role of the United Nations in Iraq.
A statement by Abdul Mahdi’s office cited on Saturday “Abdul Mahdi received Kobler in his office in Baghdad where they discussed the upcoming local elections.”
“The two sides assure the necessity of nominating the new members of the Independent High Electoral Commission or extending the term of the current IHEC in order to conduct the local elections on time,” the statement added.
“The two sides also discussed the procedures of releasing Iraq from the Seventh Chapter of the UN’s Charter in addition to the procedures of transferring the residents of Ashraf Camp in Diyala province to Liberty Camp in Baghdad,” the statement pointed out.
“For his part, Kobler assured that the discussed issues will be included in his report that he will submit to the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Ki-moon,” the statement concluded.
