Al-Hashemi disagrees with Larijani on several issues – source

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The meeting which was held on Thursday between Vice President, Tareq al-Hashemi, and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Ali Larijani, witnessed disagreement in viewpoints regarding several issues, a well-informed source said Friday. “Al-Hashemi rejected a number of proposals Larijani presented to the Iraqi side, including issuing a general pardon on some Iranians detained by Iraqi security forces for entering Iraq illegally,” the source told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The vice president suggested releasing Iraqi detainees in Iran in return for releasing the Iranian detainees in Iraq,” the source added, noting that al-Hashemi refused to discuss the Iranian detainees issue until reaching an agreement on the Iraqi prisoners in Iran. Larijani had arrived in Baghdad last Wednesday (Nov. 4) and held several meetings with senior Iraqi officials, including Speaker Iyad al-Samarraie, his two deputies; Sheikh Khaled al-Attiya and Aaref Tayfour as well as representatives of the parliamentary blocs.
