AL Iraq mission begins work Mon.
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Arab League’s mission to Iraq will arrive in Baghdad on Monday to undertake its work, an under-secretary of state for foreign affairs said. “The head of the mission, Hani Khallaf, will arrive today in the capital Baghdad,” Labeed Abawi told IraqiNews.com. In late July, the secretary general of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, assigned Khallaf, Egypt’s former assistant foreign minister for Arab and Middle Eastern affairs and its representative to the Arab League, to head the organization’s office in Iraq. Khallad succeeded Mokhtar Lamani, a Moroccan diplomat who came to office in March 2006 and submitted his resignation in 2007, arguing that it is “impossible” to make any serious achievement with regards to national reconciliation in Iraq.
