Association of Iraqi Scholars demands “serious” action against anti-Christian crimes
BAGHDAD /Iraqi News The Association of Iraqi Scholars has condemned crimes targeting the country’s Christian community, calling on the government to act “seriously” in this matter. “We reiterate our condemnation of those crimes as well as others that target innocent Iraqis and call on concerned bodies to work seriously to chase evil gangs that play Russian roulette with the lives of people…,” according to a statement released by the association and received by Iraqi News. Last week, four Christians were killed in separate incidents in Mosul City, which lies 405 km north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad. A surge in acts of violence against Christians in late September 2008 has forced them to move to the outskirts of the city and the Kurdistan region. SS (P)/SR 1
