Baghdad papers warn of inaccurate statements
Heit-Arresting BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Two Baghdad-based newspapers on Thursday called on Iraqi officials and policy makers to refrain from making inaccurate statements and false accusations. Al-Ittihad newspaper, the daily mouthpiece of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) led by Iraqi President Jalal al-Talabani, said that the next stage in the Iraqi political process is critical and requires a deep sense of responsibility on the part of politicians and officials. The newspaper criticized some unnamed parliamentarians for making irresponsible statements, which it said make matters worse. The newspaper said that it is the duty of the Parliament and state institutions to hold those parliamentarians accountable for their inflammatory statements and to bring them to court. The newspaper pointed out that while criticism is necessary at all stages of the political process, false accusations will add fuel to the fire and undermine all achievements on the political scene. On the same subject, Badr newspaper, the daily mouthpiece of Badr Organization, one of the components of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC) led by Abdelaziz al-Hakeem, criticized some mass media for intentionally or unintentionally creating an atmosphere of unrest, mistrust and fear between the people and the government by making groundless accusations to serve political purposes.
