Ban Ki-Moon calls on Iraqi leaders for dialogue to achieve peace
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, has called on Iraq’s Political Leaderships to achieve peace, through national dialogue, condemning the armed attacks that struck a number of Iraqi cities on Monday, according to a UN statement on Tuesday. “I call on Iraq’s citizens to reject attempts that encourage violence in their country,” the statement quoted the UN Secretary-General as saying, describing the attacks as “a horrible crime, carried during the blessed month of Ramadan.” The UN Secretary-General also said: “I call on the Political Leaderships in Iraq to continue their common activity to achieve peace, through national dialogue and compromise.” Noteworthy is that Iraq had witnessed a series of explosions, the first of their kind since over 2 months, in several Iraqi provinces, including Wassit, Karbala, Salahal-Din, Najaf and Kirkuk, that killed over 60 people and injured about 250 others, according to security sources.
