Citizen bloc denounce MP’s statements over Najaf Religious Authority

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Citizen Bloc condemned the statements of the MP Hussein al-Asadi of the State of Law Coalition against the Religious Authority in Najaf, describing them as an attempt to dismantle the nation’s religion and its ethnic base.

The head of the PCB, Baqer Jaber al-Zubaidi said in a press conference at the Parliament’s building “We stress these statements indicate an approach that aim to distort the ethnic and intellectual ideology and eliminate the religious authority from its national mission.”

“The Religious Authority in Najaf played pivotal role in the jihad movements in 1914-1917, 1920 revolution, and Shabaniya uprising,” Zubaidi added confirming “After the fall of the former regime in 2003, the Religious Authority participated in preserving the public money and the properties through supporting the new political system in Iraq and urging the people to take part in the elections and confronting the sectarian scheme, and so forth.”

It is worth mentioning that MP Asadi has described through media statements the Religious Authority in Najaf as part of the civil society organizations.
