Congressional resolution draft is still in its early stages, says US ambassador to Iraq
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – US ambassador to Iraq Stuart Jones stated on Thursday, that the congressional resolution draft on the Kurds and Sunnis is still in its early stages, emphasizing that his country understands the Iraqi concern, while noted that he will meet with members of the Congressional Committee to discuss the matter with them.
Jones said in press statements followed by IraqiNews.com, “I cannot speak on behalf of the US Congress, but we assure you that the official policy, which is formulated by President Barack Obama, supports a united Iraq,” noting that, the proposed project is still in the early stages and it will go through multiple steps.”
Jones added, “I understand the Iraqi concern. I’ll go to Washington next week and meet with Committee members concerned with this decision and talk with them in this regard.”
The US ambassador stressed that, “We are proud of our relationship with the Kurdish region and the rest components of Iraq,” pointing out that, “The next meeting of the region’s president Massoud Barzani with Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden will be good and positive.”
The United States of America confirmed on Wednesday, that its policy toward Iraq has not changed, while expressed its support for a unified Iraq, noting that the project submitted to the US House of Representatives is not based on state laws; it does not reflect the political views of the United States.
