Declaration of Kurdistan independence is currently impossible, says Barzani
(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – The head of the Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani announced on Saturday the “impossibility” of declaration of independence for the region at the moment, attributing the reason to the political and security considerations, while expressed the Kurdistan’s interest in resolving this issue with the central government in a peaceful manner.
Barzani said in a television interview with the channel “Russia 24” followed up by IraqiNews.com, “the Kurdish nation has the right to take a decisive step in getting its independence, but the current circumstances will not allow it to get this independence,” stressing ” Kurdistan’s interest in resolving this issue peacefully with Baghdad.”
Barzani added that “the secession of the region from the rest of Iraq is a normal democratic process takes place through the expression of the will of the citizens,” adding that “the Kurds always sought to build a federal democratic state.”
Barzani pointed out that “the declaration of independence for the region is currently impossible for considerations, not only political, but because of the difficult security situation in Iraq itself.”
