EU confirms its support for Iraqi government headed by al-Abadi

(IraqiNews.com) On Saturday evening, the European Union confirmed its strong support for the Iraqi government headed by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, reiterating its firm support for the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq, while called for countries in the region to support the Iraqi government’s efforts to restore peace and stability in the country.

In recommendations by the Foreign Affairs Council of the European Union, “The European Council has adopted a strategy on Iraq and ISIS for the next two years.”

The recommendations added, “The European Union reaffirms its support for Iraq’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and confirms its strong support for the Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.”

The European Union welcomed the government’s commitment to continue reforms and comprehensive dialogue in order to achieve inclusiveness in governance and national reconciliation, peace and stability in the long term, and welcomed the significant progress made in many fields, including the adoption of the budget.”
