Gulf Cooperation Council welcomes lifting UN sanctions on Iraq
(IraqiNews.com) The Gulf Cooperation Council countries welcomed the decision of lifting UN sanctions on Iraq.
The UN Security Council voted on last Thursday, on relieving Iraq from the UN Charter’s seventh Chapter.
Post holding the Gulf Cooperation Council countries’ meeting on last Saturday in the Bahraini capital, Manama, a statement was issued by the Council saying “The Gulf Cooperation Council welcomes the UN Security Council’s decision over exempting Iraq from the sanctions stated in the 7th Chapter and referring the Kuwaiti prisoners and missing persons file as well as the Kuwaiti properties to the UN mission in Iraq (UNAMI) and including these files within the UN Charter’s 6th Chapter instead of the 7th Chapter.”
“This resolution is the result of the progress in the Iraqi-Kuwaiti relations and the reciprocal visits which yielded in concluding important agreements concerning some pending issues between both countries,” the statement added.
