Integrity Committee to appeal canceling arms deal with Russia
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The parliament Integrity Committee decided to submit an appeal draft to challenge the decision of canceling the arms deal with Russia file that was accompanied by suspicions of corruption.
A statement by the Committee reported on Thursday “The Committee discussed during its regular meeting headed by Baha al-Araji, two issues related to the arms deal with Russia, and the fake explosives detection devices deal.”
The statement quoted Araji as saying “We discussed vetoing this case by its investigating judge where it seemed that this decision is illegal and it was subject to political pressures, therefore we decided to appeal this decision next week.”
The Iraqi government had concluded in 2012 a number of arms deals with Russia and Czech during the Premier Nouri al-Maliki’s visit to these two countries, where the cost of these deals was up to $ 4,2 billion.
