Iraq condemns final statement of Arab Gulf States Cooperation Council

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed surprise towards the final statement of the Gulf States Cooperation Council related to Iraq, demanding the Council to “Respect Iraq’s sovereignty and non-interference in its internal affairs.”

A statement from the Iraqi Foreign Affair Ministry to Iraqi News stated that “The ministry expresses its surprise towards the content of the statement issued at the conclusion of the GSCC related to the situation in Iraq two days ago.”

It added that “The statement expressed doubts on the Iraqi government responsibilities towards its people and neighboring countries,” noting that “The new Iraq through the political process has made significant strides in the way of democratic freedoms and respect for human rights, national reconciliation and the rule of law and respect for its international obligations.”

The statement continued saying that “The process of democratic transformation that took place in Iraq has been represented by the Government of Iraq approach to fulfill its obligations under international resolutions on the relationship with the State of Kuwait and in a good faith and was confirmed in multiple meetings between the Iraqi and Kuwaiti officials and the agreements signed between them.”

“Iraq calls the States of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council to avoid interfering in the Iraqi internal affairs and to act according to bases of mutual respect and international resolutions,” the statement concluded.
