Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi Foreign Ministry mentioned that “Iraq has participated, on last Thursday, in the meeting of the UN’s Security Council to discuss the humanitarian needs of the Syrian refugees in addition to the Syrian situation and its affect on the regional security.”
A statement by the FM received by IraqiNews.com on Saturday cited “France that heads the current term of the UN’s Security Council has invited Iraq to participate in the meeting where the undersecretary of the ministry for the Foreign Relations and the International Organizations, Mohammed al-Dorki, represented Iraq in the meeting.”
“The meeting hosted the neighboring countries for Syria (Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey) and Dorki showed the Iraqi stance over the Syrian crisis and the numbers of the Syrian refugees in Iraq in addition to the efforts of the Iraqi government to support them,” the statement added.
“Dorki has also expressed the concerns of Iraq over consequences of the Syrian crisis, stressing the need for support of the International Community and the Organizations of the UN for Syria’s neighboring countries to deal with the displaced syrian citizens due to violence in Syria,” the statement concluded.
