Iraqi commander denies Iranian forces presence in Khour al-Amiya port
BASRA / IraqiNews.com: Basra operations commander denied on Friday any presence of Iranian forces in Khour al-Aamiya port, asserting that the port is under Iraq’s control. “The Khour al-Aamiya oil port is under the national control and there is no foreign soldier there,” General Mohammad Jawad Howidi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “The statements made by some people in this regard are baseless,” he added. On Wednesday (Jan. 27), member of the parliament’s foreign relations committee, Taha al-Lahiebi, had called for the withdrawal of Iranian forces from the port, welcoming at the same time the withdrawal from the Fakka oilfield. Iraqi forces had received the Khour al-Aamiya port last April from the Multinational forces. Basra is 590 km south of Baghdad. SH (P) 1
