Iraqi Shiite Cleric, Muqtada al-Sadr demands GCC to put end to Bahrain crisis.
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Chairman of Iraq’s Shiite Sadrist Trend, Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, now on a visit to the Qatari Capital of Doha, has demanded the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) to put an end to the crisis of Bahrain, in order to “change it into a door-for-peace for the states of the Region, including Libya and Yemen,” according to a statement by his office on Tuesday. The statement, copy of which was received by IraqiNews.com news agency, said that Sadr had addressed “a document of peace to the Kings, Emirs and Leaders of the GCC, saying: “It is not the duty of “al-Jazeera Fortress or any other force to stretch its hands against any Arab, whether it was Sunni or Shiite,” calling upon them to “put an end to what is happening in Bahrain, in order to change it into a ‘door of peace for all the states of the Region’.” Sadr also said in his message: “We know that the GCC calls for peace in our countries, that still suffer from horrible problems, as our sacred land (Great Palestine) is still under the power of the Jewish occupation, which is acting a lot against the issues of our countries and trying to divide and disperse us.” Bahrain is witnessing since Feb. 14 th last a protest movement, led by a “Shiite majority,” demanding the downfall of its government and the achievement of political reforms, according to the world mass media.
