Iraq’s Foreign Minister discusses border demarcation with his visiting Iranian Counterpart:

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Iraq‘s Foreign Minister Hoshiar Zibari has discussed with his visiting Iranian Counterpart, Ali Akbar Salihi, the issue of the demarcation of borders between the two neighborly countries and the activation of agreements and memo of understanding (MOUs), concluded between the two countries. “Iraq is keen to build good relations with its neighboring states, including Iran,” Zibari said, adding that “the joint high commission would hold meetings in Baghdad soon, to revise all the agreements and MOUs, concluded by the previous Iraqi government with the Iranian side, in order to activate them.” He said that he discussed with Salihi the issue of the high committee for the demarcation of the borders between the two countries, especially after the completion of most of their works by the technical committees, related to the demarcation of the joint overland and river pillars, reiterating that “there is good cooperation by the Iranian side in this respect, according to the reports of the technical and expertise committees of our Ministry and other ministries.”  “We have also agreed on the organization of visits for the sacred places,” Zibari said, adding: “we are presenting condolences for the friendly Iranian people for the aggressive attacks that had been targetted against the innocent visitors by the armed groups.” Zibari said that “the new Iranian Foreign Minister was born in the holy Iraqi city of Karbala and had lived in northern Baghdad’s Kadhimiya district, visiting Iraq for the first time, after his assignment for his present post,” he said, adding that “Salihi had come to convey the congratulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran for the new government, formed with the will of the Iraqis.” Iran‘s Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salihi, had arrived in Baghdad early in the day on his first official visit for Iraq.
