Iraq’s stability is in Syria’s interest- Assad

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that it is in Syria’s interest that Iraq enjoys improved security and stability, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said today. This came during his meeting with the EU high representative for common foreign and security policy, Javier Solana. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem attended the meeting. “Syria has a direct interest in establishing security and stability in Iraq and achieving reconciliation among all constituents of the Iraqi people,” the news agency quoted Assad as saying. Iraqi-Syrian relations have seen a heated tension following accusations that Syria is harboring groups believed to be behind the recent suicide blasts that killed and wounded scores of people in the capital Baghdad.
