Iraq’s Sunni Waqf (Endowment) Chief condemns “massacres in Syria.”

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Chairman of Iraq’s Muslim Sunni Waqf (Endowment), Ahmed Abdul-Ghafour al-Samarrae, has condemned in his Friday Mosque’s speech the current incidents in Syria , describing them as “massacres,” and calling on the “Syrian Army to stop killing their compatriots.”   “When I follow up the reports about the incidents in Syria and its cities, including Damascus , I see that what is happening there is a shame in the face of the Nation, that is keeping silent towards such crimes,” Samarrae said in his Friday speech in west Baghdad ’s Um al-Qura Mosque.   “Allah shall throw his anger against us, if we don’t move, speak or condemn what is taking place in Syria ,” Samarrae said.   He charged Syria with having “opened its borders for criminals and established centers to train terrorist groups to kill the Iraqi people, along with sending explosive belts and booby-trapped cars to destroy them.”   “ Iraq had lost more than 400 Imams (Preachers) due to the terrorist acts, and the Syrian regime is now attacking its people, burning mosques, killing people during their prayers, and there is nobody to condemn its acts,” he said.   Syria had witnessed over the past 4 months daily demonstrations, that were confronted by violent acts   and killings against innocent demonstrators, demanding freedom and justice.   SKH (IT)   337
