Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqiya Slate announced its support for considering Basra province as “The Economic Capital of Iraq.”

MP, Ahmed al-Sari, of the Iraqiya Slate stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “We support endorsing the law draft of considering Basra as the Economic Capital of Iraq and we are surprised for delaying it where the province suffered for a long time and it is the suitable time to be compensated by endorsing this law draft.”

“We have no idea about the time to include this law draft in the parliament agenda, but we will support it,” he concluded.

Earlier, the head of the Supreme Iraqi Islamic Council, Ammar al-Hakim, launched an initiative under the title of “Basra, the Economic Capital of Iraq”, calling for “Establishing a governmental city in which the presidencies, ministries and state institutions are represented in order that the presidents, ministers, Deputies and senior officials spend months in this city.”
