KA leader rules out nominating al-Hashemi for premiership

BAGHDAD /Iraqi News A leader of the Kurdistan Alliance (KA), Latief Haji Hassan, on Monday ruled out political blocs’ agreement on the nomination of Tareq al-Hashemi for the premiership post instead of the Head of al-Iraqiya List, Iyad Allawi. “I do not think that any bloc will agree on the nomination of al-Hashemi for the post of prime minister,” Hassan told Iraqi News. “Dawlat al-Qanoon and Iraqi National Alliance have similar electoral programs of the Kurdistan Alliance,” he noted. The nomination of Allawi will face a constitutional obstacle as the prime minister must be an Iraqi from an Iraqi parent, while Allawi’s mother is a Lebanese. SH (P)/SR 1
