Kurdistan to join drawing Mosul’s post-liberation roadmap: Presidential Adviser
(IraqiNews.com) Erbil – Kurdistan will partake in drawing the roadmap for the management of the city of Mosul after liberating the city from Islamic State fighters, said a media adviser to Kurdish President Massoud Barzani.
Kifah Mahmoud said in a press statement that victories over the Islamic State were the fruit of coordination between Kurdish leaderships and the federal government in Iraq.
He added that a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to Kurdish capital, Erbil, on Saturday came “on the backdrop of outstanding victories made by Peshmerga and Iraqi forces on all fronts,” and referred to the liberation of the villages of Hamdania, Bartala and Fadilia and other districts on the outskirts of Mosul as “heralding a final victory over ISIS.”
Coordination between Baghdad and Erbil will help resolve impending issues related to Mosul, Mahmoud said, adding that cooperation will also eliminate the consequences of “the terrorist thought and culture” the Islamic State imposed on the city.
Abadi arrived late Saturday to Erbil for a meeting with Kurdish President Massoud Brazani and other officials. The visit followed a tour of Iraqi forces in Mosul.
