Lawyer asked to defend Baghdadi

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Lawyer Tareq Harb on Wednesday said that he has been asked to defend the leader of the so-called ‘Islamic State if Iraq’, Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, who is currently arrested by Iraqi forces. “The wife of Ahmed Abd Ahmed, nicknamed Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, along with her sister, asked me to defend Baghdadi,” Harb told IraqiNews.com news agency. “Ahmed’s wife came from Diala and gave me the same information reported in the media. She said that her husband was the chairman of the municipal council of Bahraz district, Diala province, in his forties and has children,” Harb added. Harb pointed out that he has not yet decided whether to take the case. A spokesperson for Baghdad’s Operations Command (BOC) said that Baghdadi was arrested on April 23. The self-styled ‘Islamic State in Iraq’ is an armed organization that was set up in October 2006. Most prominent of its groups is al-Qaeda in Iraq. SS (P)/SR 1
