Mladenov: Ayatollah Sistani confirms need to form comprehensive government

Najaf (IraqiNews.com) The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq, Mr. Nickolay Mladenov confirmed, after meeting with the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayyed Ali al-Sistani, that Sistani stressed the need to form the government in accordance with the constitutional timelines. After meeting with Sistani in Najaf, Mladenov said in a press conference attended by IraqiNews.com reporter “We discussed the election and post-election and we agreed that the elections were organized in a professional manner and we noted that the 60% participation was positive.”

“We also emphasized on the fundamentally participation of all the political components in the next government and the importance of endorsing the Budget Law as we confirmed that necessity of finding a serious solution to the crisis in Anbar and displaced people in addition to the need to settle the ongoing crisis between the Federal Government and the Kurdistani Regional Government over oil exports,” he added.

“The United Nations will continue to support the dialogue among the political blocs and all the political leaders have to take responsibility and form the government as soon as possible,” he concluded.
