MP Jubouri calls Justice Ministry to allow parliamentary committees’ visit to prisons
Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Woman and Childhood, called the Justice Ministry to allow the parliamentary committees to visit the prisons to be acquainted with the situation of the female prisoners.
The head of the Committee, Intisar al-Jouburi, stated in a press statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, received by IraqiNews.com “The transgressions against the female prisoners in Iraq are continue where they embarrass the Iraqi government and the international community in addition to raping those prisoners which is not a humanitarian issue.”
“The Committee condemns such procedures against the female prisoners and calls the Justice Ministry to allow the parliamentary committees and the civil society organizations to visit the prisoners to be acquainted with the situation of the prisoners,” she added, noting that “The government has to set a law draft to eliminate the family violence to be endorsed by the parliament.”
“The committee also calls the parliament to practice its observatory role in checking the prisons and the transgressions against the prisoners,” she pointed out.
“In the 25th of December 1990, the United Nations General Assembly assigned this day to be the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to remind us of the woman’s rights and the necessity of protecting her from the transgressions against her,” she concluded.
