No political prisoners, secret prisons in Kurdistan- official
ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Kurdistan RegionG) UN coordinator, Dindar Zebari, denied the existence of secret prisons or political prisoners in the autonomous region, adding that a senior committee has been set up to examine an Amnesty International report on human rights in the region. “No one has been arrested without a court order. The doors of our prisons are always open to international organizations…,” Zebari said in a press conference that was attended by IraqiNews.com news agency. On April 14, the London-based Amnesty International published a report, in which it criticized the human rights situation in the region. The report included cases of human rights violations, random detentions, torture, and violence against women in Iraq’s Kurdistan region. “Amnesty International did not reflect the positive aspects in the region, including an improvement in the situation of women…,” Zebari added.
