Parliament to pass journalists’ protection law soon – Sa’idi
BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: National Alliance MP declared that the Parliament is “serious in passing the Journalists Protection Law” in order to organize relations with the state. “The aim is to organize relations between the journalists sector and the government, in addition to preserving their personal and general rights,” he told IraqiNews.com. He expressed his hope “to establish the bases for a new press based on freedom and defending the political system through positive and constructive criticism”. The law aims at protecting the journalists’ rights and having access to information freely. It stipulated that the Journalists’ Union should be informed of any action to be taken against the journalist, related to his work, as well as all foreign press media should sign contracts with Iraqis to be registered at the Union.
