Political motivations behind calls for speaker’s resignation

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: An Iraqi parliamentarian on Monday said that political motivations are behind calls by some blocs for Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani’s resignation. “Some parliamentary blocs are trying to take vengeance on the 22 Tammuz (July) Forces and to dismantle it in light of its stance on the Kirkuk issue through their insistence on al-Mashhadani’s resignation,” MP Amr al-Juburi from the Independent Arab Bloc, who is also a member of the 22 Tammuz Forces, told IraqiNews.com. On Wednesday, a heated debate erupted between Mashhadani and members of parliamentary committees over the law on foreign troop withdrawal from Iraq. “Those blocs do not have any sense of responsibility towards Iraq. They are seeking to dominate the Parliament by taking over the position of the speaker after Mashhadani’s resignation,” Juburi added. SS (P) 1
